The Foundation The Spanish Transition Foundation was constituted in February 2007 by a wide group of people, many of which participated directly in the transitional process towards democracy in Spain, as members of parliament, ministers and high ranking members of the administration. Even if some of them were linked back in the day to Unión de Centro Democrático (Democratic Centrist Union), the promoters wish to call upon the collaboration and participation of all those who may identify with their foundational principles, with complete independence of their political affiliation whether past or present. The foundational purpose of the promoters is no other than contributing to the promotion of knowledge of Spanish transition to democracy, as well as conserving, sharing and defending the values that inspired it. With such end, the Foundation promotes and participates in all activities or initiatives that have the purpose of improving knowledge of the transitional process within Spanish society, as well as its antecedents and consequences, in its political, economic, social, cultural and international facets. With regards to the activities of the Foundation, it is understood that, although its precise chronological limits may be subject to the academic and social debate, the concept of ‘transition’ is referred to as the interval that took place between the disappearance of the authoritarian regime previously existing and the creation of a new political system fully democratic. Finally, the promoters of The Spanish Transition Foundation understand that the 1978 Constitution represents a historical achievement without match in our country, which has allowed the Spanish people to achieve levels of freedom, prosperity, equality and international presence incomparable in our contemporary history.
